Christmas Countdown

Irish actor Frank Kelly passed away earlier today at the age of 77. His most famous role was Father Jack Hackett in the classic sitcom, Father Ted. But Frank enjoyed a long and varied career spanning nearly 50 years.

A favourite of mine is Christmas Countdown (a parody of The Twelve Days of Christmas), which was released as a charity record in 1982.

Frank voices the character of Gobnait O’Lunasy as he reads twelve successive letters written to a woman named Nuala, thanking her for each of the gifts mentioned in the original song. But the letters become increasingly desperate as his house fills up with birds, drummers, maids, etc.

No official video exists, afaik, but this one has reasonably good sound quality, a slideshow, and lyrics.
